There are many myths and many truths about the beard and beard oils. Here at TruthBeard our aim is to uncover the truths as well as expose the myths.

Is there a product that can help me grow my non-existing beard?

Unfortunately, if you are unable to grow a beard there are no beard oils that can miraculously put some hairs on your face. Although beard oils do aid in growth and help your beard look fuller if you are unable to grow a beard in the first place then there is little hope for you I am afraid. Being unable to grow a beard is more down to testosterone. Beards are produced by dihydrotestosterone. The way a man’s body reacts to testosterone determines how thick or thin his beard will become. Seeking out medical help to try and grow a beard is ill advisable because these dangerous products people advertise could lead to acne any other serious symptoms. We believe the only products that should be applied to your beard are 100% organic and unrefined products.

Will beard oils increase the quality of my beard?

· Beard oils certainly have the ability to increase the quality of your beard. Beard oils usually consist of carrier oil and essential oils or sometimes just carrier oils. Carrier oils make the bulk of the beard oil with essential oils added to add fragrance. Carrier oils possess certain vitamins and fatty acids that promote health, shine and comfort to the beard. The frequently used carrier oils are Grapeseed oil, Argan oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, castor oil, coconut oil, Sweet almond oil. There are many more carrier oils but these are the oils in which are mostly used by beard oil companies. Carrier oils are easily absorbed by the hair and skin and as well as their healing properties they have a very therapeutic effect. Below is what a few of these oils contain and the benefits.

· Grapeseed oil, Vitis vinifera (Plant Family: Vitaceae) contains omega-6 fatty acids, this acid helps to combat dryness by keeping the skin and hair moisturised. Grapeseed oil has anti-inflammatory and acne reductive properties. This oil is also very mellow for your skin so the chances of breakouts or clogged pores are next to none. This is a light oil so there would be no greasy feel to the beard. This oil should only be purchased organically or cold pressed.

· Jojoba oil, Simondsia chinensis (Plant Family: Buxaceae) is the closest natural oil to our natural sebum. It contains vitamin E, omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids This is the oil our body creates. It does not interfere with the scalps PH balance. This oil is promotes hair heath and hair growth and has antibacterial properties. Light and non-greasy. It is classified as liquid wax because of wax particles in the oil. The jojoba bean is produced in the United states, Egypt and Argentina.

· Argan oil, Argania spinosa (Plant Family: Sapotaceae) Is specifically known for its properties such as being an antioxidant, reconstructing regenerating and keeps the beard nice and soft while also conditioning it. It also keeps your skin from becoming dry which in turn would help reduce or eliminate an itchy beard. It also penetrates the hair and skin very easily and is an excellent source of vitamin E, omega 6 omega 6 which is a key ingredient for hair growth, nourishment and stimulation. Argan oil is produced from kernels in Mexico

· Sweet Almond oil, Prumus amygdalus var. dukcis (Plant Family: Rosaceae) Is an all-purpose oil that can be used up to 100% in both body and facial oils and can be used in carrier oil blends. This oil contains Vitamin E, K, zinc, proteins, omega 6 and 9fatty acids. All these ingredients help increase beard growth and reduce inflammation. This also helps prevent dandruff. Sweet Almond oil is also known for treating damaged hair and hair loss which makes this oil very essential in many beard oil products. Some face scrubs contain this oil because of the ability to clean your skin pores and follicles. Almond oil is made by pressing Almonds.

· Coconut oil, Cocos nucifera (Plant Family: Palmaceae) is a great smelling carrier oil which is solid at room temperature and liquefies when is warm. Coconut oil is a very good moisturiser and has great properties that help keep your hair healthy. Coconut oil also is a great conditioner of the hair and eliminates beard dandruff. This oil is obtained from fresh mature coconut kernels which is mainly produced in the Asia Pacific region.

· Castor oil, Ricinus communis is the most viscous out of the oils previous discussed. It is very thick and a great lubricant that also promotes shine. Castor oil is pressed from the castor seed which contains ricin. It helps promote hair growth as well as antifungal and antibacterial properties.
